Dive with Warrior Dive Adventure
Master self-reliance and complete underwater independence on the Great Barrier Reef with the SDI Solo Diver Course at Warrior Dive Adventure in Queensland! Once considered controversial, solo diving is now recognized as a responsible, highly disciplined practice for experienced divers who want to explore without relying on a buddy.
Whether you are an underwater photographer needing extra time to frame shots, a videographer requiring total freedom of movement, or a diver who often dives alongside less experienced family members, this specialty equips you with the planning tools, gear redundancy, and mindset needed to manage your own dive safety independently.
What You Will Learn & Practice
- Theory & Philosophy of Self-Reliance: Understand the evolution of solo diving vs. the traditional buddy system, legal responsibilities, mental preparedness, and risk acceptance.
- Redundant Equipment Management: Master the setup and operation of essential solo gear, including backup air systems (pony bottles/stage tanks), redundant dive computers, dual cutting devices, and Delayed Surface Marker Buoys (DSMBs).
- Advanced Dive Planning & Navigation: Learn precise air consumption calculations, conservative turnaround point planning, self-navigation, and independent route management.
- Emergency Management Without a Buddy: Practice handling gear malfunctions, free-flowing regulators, mask loss, entanglements, and out-of-gas scenarios completely unassisted.

Itinerary
Itinerary
Phase 1: Digital E-Learning & Prerequisite Check (Prior to In-Person Training)
- Complete online SDI Solo Diver e-Learning modules covering self-reliance principles, gas consumption calculations (SAC/RMV rates), redundant system selection, and solo dive mental preparedness.
- Verify 100+ logged dives and prerequisite certifications.
Day 1: Redundant System Workshop & Solo Training Dives
- 08:00 AM – Orientation & Gear Configuration Workshop
- Meet at the dive center for course registration and gear review. Calculate Surface Air Consumption (SAC) rates, evaluate redundant gas requirements, and configure pony bottles, redundant regulators, SMBs, and backup line cutters.
- 10:30 AM – Open Water Dive 1 (Self-Reliance & Gas Management)
- Execute controlled entries and descents without buddy assistance. Practice switching to a redundant air supply, tracking precise gas consumption against planned SAC rates, and navigating returning to the exit point independently.
- 01:00 PM – Surface Interval & SAC Rate Calculation Review
- Analyze actual gas usage from Dive 1, calculate true RMV rates under dive conditions, and finalize contingency planning for Dive 2.
- 02:00 PM – Open Water Dive 2 (Emergency Scenarios & Mask Recovery)
- Perform simulated emergency scenarios: switching to redundant air while blind/no-mask, deploying a surface marker buoy (SMB) from depth without assistance, managing simulated entangled equipment, and executing timed safety stops.
- 04:00 PM – Debriefing & Certification Finalization
- Clean and rinse solo equipment, review dive profiles, verify logbooks, and process your official SDI Solo Diver digital certification.
