Queensland SDI Sidemount Diver Course

• SDI E-Learning & Certification: Access to official SDI Sidemount Diver e-Learning course materials and digital certification card upon successful completion.
• Instructor Guidance: Professional instruction and direct supervision from a certified SDI Sidemount Instructor.
• Confined & Open Water Dives: 1 confined water / pool equipment fitting session followed by 3 open-water training dives.
• Sidemount Gear Configuration: Practical workshop on rigging sidemount harnesses, cylinder mounting, hose routing, and trim adjustments.

Phase 1: Digital E-Learning (Prior to In-Person Training)

• Complete online SDI Sidemount Diver e-Learning modules covering sidemount history, equipment configuration, gas management with dual cylinders, trim, and safety procedures.

Day 1: Rigging Workshop, Pool Session & Open Water Dive 1

• 08:00 AM – Sidemount Workshop & Harness Fitting
  • Meet at the dive center for course registration. Configure and adjust sidemount harnesses, bungee systems, regulator hose routing, and cylinder rigging clips.
• 10:30 AM – Confined Water / Pool Practice
  • Practice water entry/exit with sidemount tanks, cylinder attachment/detachment, fine-tuning trim, frog kicking, and regulator switching protocols.

Day 2: Advanced Sidemount Skills & Emergency Drills

• 08:30 AM – Briefing & Gas Planning
  • Review dual-tank gas planning rules ($1/3$ or $1/6$ pressure limits) and emergency procedures for out-of-gas scenarios.
• 09:30 AM – Open Water Dive 1 (Emergency Drills & Out-of-Gas Protocols)
  • Practice simulated gas leaks, feathering valves, shut-offs, long-hose gas sharing, and swimming with a single unclipped cylinder (stage positioning).
• 12:30 PM – Lunch Break & Surface Interval
• 01:30 PM – Open Water Dive 2 (Sidemount Navigation & Restricted Passages)
  • Execute a complete sidemount dive: practice streamlined propulsion techniques, maneuvering through tight profile areas, and pushing cylinders ahead in shallow/tight spaces.
• 03:30 PM – Gear Care & Certification Finalization
  • Rinse sidemount harnesses and regulators with fresh water, log your sidemount dives, and process your official SDI Sidemount Diver digital certification.

Suitable for divers with Open Water Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another agency) age 16 (with Parental Consent) years old or older. If you haven’t dived in over 12 months, a quick "Scuba Review" or Refresher session is required for your safety.

Not suitable for pregnant women or anyone that has a history of certain medical conditions (especially those affecting the respiratory, circulatory, or nervous systems—e.g., severe asthma, epilepsy, recent major surgery, or heart conditions)

A completed Medical Statement is required. If any "Yes" answers are marked, a physician's written clearance is mandatory.
