Fourteen nights from Malé through the length of the Maldives, with about 37 dives. Heading south, the route takes in South Malé Atoll for Kandooma Thila, Vaavu for a sunset dive with nurse sharks at Alimatha, and the channels of Meemu, Thaa and Laamu. In the far south it reaches Huvadhoo, Fuvahmulah for tiger sharks, and Addu for the British Loyalty wreck and its manta cleaning stations. Island and beach hopping, snorkelling and a visit to Malé and Hulhumalé fill the time between dives.

Two weeks on the water changes the way a trip feels. The first few days are about settling in, learning the crew's rhythm and the feel of a Maldivian channel. By the second week the boat feels like home, the dive briefings are shorthand, and you are reading the current yourself before you roll in. The atolls change around you as you travel, from the busy reefs near Malé to the open-ocean islands of the far south, where the water drops off fast into deep blue.

Itinerary

Day 1: Malé.

Transfer to the vessel, complete the welcome and safety briefings, and enjoy a check dive.

Days 2–3: South Malé and Vaavu.

Dive Kandooma Thila for grey reef sharks and eagle rays, followed by Alimatha’s sunset or night dive with resident nurse sharks.

Days 4–5: Meemu and Thaa.

Explore shark-filled channels, eagle rays, soft coral, and manta cleaning stations in Meemu, then dive Thaa for grey reef and whitetip reef sharks, with possible whale shark encounters at night.

Days 6–7: Laamu.

Discover fish-filled channels and shark encounters as the vessel continues south toward the Deep South.

Days 8–11: Huvadhoo.

Explore channels with grey reef and silvertip sharks, with possible whale shark encounters at night.

Day 12: Fuvahmulah.

Look for tiger sharks, oceanic mantas, and thresher sharks around this oceanic island.

Days 13–14: Addu.

Dive manta cleaning stations and the World War II wreck HMS British Loyalty, with opportunities to encounter tiger sharks. The final diving schedule depends on departure and flight times.

Day 15: Departure.

Disembark and transfer to Gan International Airport in Addu.

Requirements

Scuba certification: Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent is required.
Depth: the maximum permitted depth in the Maldives is 30 metres.
Equipment: every diver must carry a dive computer, a surface marker buoy (SMB) and a reef hook.
Freediving: certified freedivers diving with a buddy can use the ropes and buoys. No freediving training or courses are given on board.
Insurance: dive insurance is mandatory.

As a first-timer diving in Maldives and diving on liveaboard, Horizon 3 definitely made it no-fuss and memorable. Everything from the diving to the rooms to the food were better than expected and definitely value for money.

Did about 18 dives in 6 days. Organization and dive schedules were on-point and efficient. Since most of the divers on board had rather than limited diving experience, the boat manager really catered to everyone's experience level while still ensuring a splendid underwater adventure. We saw whale sharks, white and black tip sharks, soooo many mantas and mobula rays, as well as nurse sharks. The most memorable day of diving was definitely the manta day, We did 4 dives including a night dive and saw mantas on every dive which was absolutely majestic.

Had a lower-deck twins room at the front of the boat. Room is nothing of luxury but definitely provide the necessary comfort for a good rest in between dives and at night. The shower is strong which makes it easy to wash my long hair after diving every day.

Most of the time in between dives, I find it relaxing to chill at the many public spaces provided on the cruise. The dining room had strong AC and good WIFI which is good for replying some email during the day. The sundeck at the top deck is great for a sunset nap and even spotted dolphins there a few times.

Food served on boat was beyond expectation as well. Each meal had a good variety of protein, carbs and veggies. From freshly caught seafood delicacies to authentic Maldives cuisines, the talented chefs really ensured that every palate was satisfied. The BBQ on island was a highlight as well.

Overall, couldn't ask for more for my first liveaboard experience. Will definitely come back and thinking about joining for the Deep Blue Itinerary with them next time.
