Six days, five nights and around 15 dives take you through the north and centre of Komodo National Park, starting and finishing in Labuan Bajo. The route opens on the sheltered reefs of the central islands, crosses to the northern channels for the park's famous drift dives, then works back through manta cleaning stations and the Batu Bolong pinnacle before returning to port.
Komodo diving is about moving water, and this trip is built around it. You learn to read the current: where to tuck in behind a rock, when to let go and ride, how a channel that felt like a conveyor belt at 8 a.m. goes quiet by noon. The reef rewards that attention with so much fish that you stop counting. Between dives the pace drops. Coffee on a shaded deck, wet gear drying in the wind, logbooks filled in over snacks, and a small group comparing notes on what each of you saw on the same dive. By day five the rhythm of brief, dive, eat, repeat feels normal, and the thought of walking on land feels strange.
Trip Highlights & Key Regional Features
- Drift through the channels of North Komodo at Cauldron (Shotgun), Castle Rock and Crystal Rock, where current draws in reef sharks, trevally and schooling barracuda.
- Watch manta rays circle cleaning stations at Mawan and Manta Point, often with turtles and reef sharks in the same dive.
- Dive Batu Bolong, a pinnacle where hard and soft corals cover every surface, with a second visit available if the group wants it.
- Meet the green turtles of Siaba Besar, known as Turtle Town.
- Walk the trails of Rinca Island to see wild Komodo dragons.
- Add optional night dives for octopus, cuttlefish and crabs, or an optional muck dive at Wainilu for pygmy seahorses.
- Dive inside a UNESCO World Heritage park in the Coral Triangle, home to more than 1,000 fish species and over 250 coral species.
- Dive in small groups, with a maximum of four divers per guide.
- Conditions: water temperature runs 24 to 29°C and visibility is typically 15 to 30 m, with a 3 mm wetsuit standard for most sites.
- Seasons: North Komodo runs April to late November with dry weather and calm seas, while southern sites from December to March bring cooler water and more manta action.
