This nine-day Banda Sea round trip from Ambon is built around two separate days at Suanggi seamount. Between them you dive Manuk volcano, the Pulau Hatta atoll, Banda Neira, and the remote islands of Ai and Run, before a farewell at Nusa Laut and the return to Ambon.

Hammerheads are never guaranteed, which is exactly why the second Suanggi day matters. By then you know the currents, where the schools tend to pass and how to wait in the blue. The rest of the trip balances that pelagic focus with sea snakes over warm vents at Manuk, glassy visibility at Hatta and a walk through the spice-trade history of Banda Neira.

Itinerary

Day 1: Ambon
Board in Ambon Bay, safety briefing and a check dive at Laha. Welcome dinner, then the open-water crossing.

Day 2: Suanggi
Three dives at Suanggi seamount searching for schooling hammerheads, eagle rays and dogtooth tuna.

Day 3: Manuk
Three to four dives on Manuk's soft coral walls and geothermal vents, with sea snakes. Optional short hike or hot spring soak.

Day 4: Pulau Hatta
Four dives on the atoll's hard corals, fish schools and reef sharks.

Day 5: Banda Islands
Two morning dives such as Batu Kapal, a guided Fort Belgica walk and nutmeg plantation visit, then a late afternoon dive at Lava Flow.

Day 6: Ai and Run
Three dives on the remote reefs of Ai and Run.

Day 7: Suanggi again
Three more dives at Suanggi, using what you learned on day 2 to improve your chances with hammerheads.

Day 8: Nusa Laut
Two relaxed dives at Nusa Laut and a beach barbecue. Bill settlement after dinner.

Day 9: Disembark
Breakfast on board, disembark at Ambon harbour around 09:00 and transfer to Pattimura Airport (AMQ).

Requirements

Advanced Open Water certification (or equivalent from any recognised agency) is required.
Minimum of 50 logged dives recommended by the operator.
Nitrox certification is required to dive on nitrox.
Valid dive insurance is strongly recommended (DAN short-term cover can be bought through the operator).
A signed liability release and diver medical questionnaire are required before departure.

More Information

Life on board
Blue Pearl carries a maximum of 20 guests in 10 cabins, looked after by about 20 crew. Between dives you can sink into the outdoor whirlpool, grab a drink at one of two bars, stretch out on sun loungers on the sun deck or book a massage in the spa room. The air-conditioned indoor saloon doubles as a cinema, and there is gym equipment, a business centre, free Wi-Fi and free laundry. Kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and snorkelling gear are free to use.

Dining
Three meals a day on full-diving days, served buffet style, mixing Western and Indonesian dishes. Drinking water, tea, coffee and snacks are available all day. Specialty coffee, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks are charged on board. Most trips include a beach or top-deck barbecue (weather permitting).

Built for diving
Diving is run from three tenders with a large dive deck, rinse hoses, a fresh water shower and personal gear storage. Nitrox and 12-litre tanks with weights and belts are included, DIN adaptors are available and 15-litre tanks can be rented. The team includes four dive instructors with a guest-to-guide ratio of 6:1, and reef hooks, SMBs and GPS units are available on request. Photographers get a dedicated camera station with charging points, a camera table, separate rinse tanks and storage for underwater cameras.

The vessel
M/Y Blue Pearl is a 48.2-metre aluminium motor yacht, Pearl Fleet's new Indonesia boat, built to international standards with modern navigation and safety systems. Each tender carries safety equipment including oxygen, first aid kits and VHF radio or satellite phone. Onboard payment by American Express, Discover, Mastercard, Visa or cash.

Rooms

Master Suite (Upper Deck)

The only suite on board sits at the forward end of the upper deck with a 270-degree sea view. It measures 36 mÂ² with a double bed, ensuite bathroom with hot shower and air conditioning. In-room: hairdryer, safety deposit box, USB charging ports, inter-room phone, separate bath and face towel hangers. Price per person, twin share. 1 cabin (#309).
