Sea Of Okhotsk Japan Ice Freediving Adventure

The Ice Freediving Adventure in Japan is a once-in-a-lifetime expedition beneath the drift ice of the Sea of Okhotsk, a UNESCO World Heritage wilderness. Each February, pack ice from Russia's Amur River transforms Hokkaido's northern coastline into one of the most extraordinary freediving environments on Earth. Over four days, participants dive through two ice holes cut into the frozen sea, practicing constant weight descents to 13 meters and dynamic swims between holes 20 meters apart. Scuba safety divers remain in the water throughout, ensuring maximum safety and confidence.

Above the surface, the wilderness comes alive with Steller's sea eagles, white-tailed eagles, and red foxes roaming the floes. After each session, divers warm up in traditional Japanese onsen guesthouses, soaking in natural hot springs just steps from the ice. The program includes expert guidance, underwater photography, and daily breakfasts, with optional gear rental available.

This expedition is suitable for freedivers from Wave 1 upwards, offering both challenge and community. An optional 4-day extension follows, with ice fishing, Sapporo nightlife, and Tokyo cultural exploration.
